Power Factor Correction. Technique of increasing the power factor of a power supply. Switching power supplies without power factor correction draw current in short, high-magnitude pulses. These pulses can be smoothed out by using active or passive techniques. This reduces the input rms current and apparent input power, thereby increasing the power factor.

Perfluorocarbon. A chemical compound that contains only fluorine and carbon. PFCs are not ODS. They do however have a high global warming potential ( GWP). See the PFC Table
Perfluorinated carbon
Perfluorocarbons (PFCs) include CF and C gases that have a very high CO equivalency and constitute major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions. PFCs occur as a result of anode effects in smelting operations.

PRIORITY FOREIGN COUNTRY. Designations in the United States under Special 301 that describe the USTR's response to different levels of intellectual property (IP) problems in a given country. Countries having the most serious IP problems are designated as PFCs. If a country is designated a PFC, USTR must immediately initiate a Section 301 investigation and begin negotiations to resolve the IP problems either bilaterally or through initiation of WTO dispute settlement consultations. Should negotiations fail to accomplish this, USTR must decide whether to take trade action (withdraw GSP, raise tariffs, and the like). Countries designated PWL or WL are not necessarily subject to sanctions; however, trade action or dispute settlement proceedings can be launched against countries on the PWL or WL if warranted. See also Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988; Section 301; Special 301; Super 301; United States Trade Representative.

Protocol Field Compression. Normally, PPP-encapsulated packets are transmitted with a two-byte protocol field. For example, IPv4 packets are transmitted with the protocol field set to 0x0021, and MPLS packets are transmitted with the protocol field set to 0x0281. For all protocols with identifiers in the range from 0x0000 through 0x00ff, PFC enables routers to compress the protocol field to one byte, as defined in RFC 1661, The Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP). PFC allows you to conserve bandwidth by transmitting less data. See also ACFC.
