Ukiah International Latitude Observatory* Ukiah, California The Ukiah International Latitude Observatory was one of six astronomical stations established in the northern hemisphere in 1899 for the purpose of making systematic latitude observations. A sister station, the Gaithersburg Latitude Observatory, has been recommended for designation as a National Historic Landmark. The Ukiah Observatory should be nominated to the National Register of Historic Places and evaluated for National Historic Landmark designation. The California Major Risk Medical Insurance Program (MRMIP) is a 36-month program developed to provide health insurance for Californians who are unable to obtain coverage in the individual insurance market. This program became operational in 1991. Subscribers in the MRMIP are charged a monthly premium ranging from 125 to 137.5 percent of each participating plan's standard average individual rate. As of May 2005, just over 8,500 persons were enrolled.
