A Japanese dish that is cabbage batter wrapped around any kind of food, usually meat and vegetables. Basically a mix between an omelette and a pancake, Okonimiyaki is cooked on a Teppen grill (see below) and often served with mayonnaise, a special Okonimiyaki sauce and pickled ginger. Again, this is often seen in Ranma 1/2 but does appear in other anime and manga and is sometimes referred to as Japanese Pizza. Pronounced ‘oh-ko-no-mee-yah-kee'.
Japanese dish cooked with various ingredients. Okonomi means "what you like" or "what you want", and yaki means "grilled" or "cooked" (cf. yakitori and yakisoba); thus, the name of this dish means "cook what you like, the way you like". In Japan, okonomiyaki is usually associated with the Kansai or Hiroshima areas.
