(1) God the Father is one of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. God the Son is eternally begotten of God the Father. God the Holy Spirit eternally proceeds from God the Father (see Matt. 28:19; John 14:10; 15:26). (2) "Father" is a title given to one's spiritual father based on the custom of the Jews, who spoke of their father Abraham or their father David, and on the words of Paul, who called himself the father of his flock. See Luke 1:73; Acts 4:25 with center-column note; 1 Cor. 4:15.
God the Father. In the Bible, God is referred to as Three "persons", Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Yet there is but one God. Jesus Christ taught the disciples to address God in prayer as "our Father." See Matt. 6:9 (DTC)
The biological or adoptive father of a child; not a step-father. If the child is born out of wedlock and paternity can be proved, the biological father is also the child's father for inheritance purposes.
A father is the male parent of a child. Like mothers, fathers may be categorised according to their biological, social or legal relationship with the child. Historically, the biological relationship paternity has been determinative of fatherhood.
"Father" is the codename given to a blind female British government official who appears as a supporting character in the 1998 film The Avengers, based on a very brief appearance in the British TV series of the same name. She can be regarded as a foil for "Mother," a wheelchair-bound male British government official who gives orders to the main characters in the last season of the series and in the film. The humorous use of "Mother" for a male character is the source of the use of "Father" for a female character.
