Bit Error Rate Tester. A device for testing the reliability of a digital datacommunications link. The BERT generates specific data patterns that are routed through a communications device for comparison at the receiving end. The errors are counted by the BERT.
Bit Error Rate Tester. A device that calculates the bit error rate on a communication channel.
Bit Error Rate Test A test that reflects the ratio of errored bits to the total number transmitted. Usually shown in exponential form (10^-6) to indicate that one out of a certain number of bits are in error.
An acronym for Bit Error Rate Testing. Bit Error Rate Testers (such as Frontline's SerialBERT Async and SerialBERT ComProbe) are typically used to test modems and/or telephone lines by sending a known data pattern over the circuit and then testing to see that the pattern arrived intact at it's destination. Traditionally, Bit error Rate Testers were large, bulky and expensive pieces of hardware; with SerialBERT the tester only needs a notebook PC and the SerialBERT software.
Bit Error Rate Test - a procedure or device that measures the bit error rate of a transmission.
bit error rate tester. A system which measures the fraction of bits transmitted incorrectly by a digital communication system.
(Bit Error Rate Tester)is any device which can simultaneously transmit and receive a digital signal and derive a BER measurement by comparing the received with the transmitted signal. More sophisticated BERTs can add gausian noise and can include many other features helpful in testing bit syncs.
A device used to test the bit error rate of a communications circuit (i.e. the ratio of received erroneous bits to received bits, usually a number referenced to a power of 10).
(Bit Error Rate Test) - A test that reflects the ratio of error bits to the total number transmitted.
Bit error rate test. A test that can be run on the following interfaces to determine whether they are operating properly: E1, E3, T1, T3, and channelized (DS3, OC3, OC12, and STM1) interfaces.
bit error rate tester. Device that determines the BER on a given communications channel. See also BER (bit error rate).
Bit Error Rate Test. A common test for WAN lines.
BERT or Bit Error Rate Test is a testing method for digital communication circuits that uses predetermined stress patterns comprising of a sequence of logical ones and zeros.
