Definitions for "Personal Information"
Personal information is anything that can identify you, such as; name, addresses, telephone number, mobile number, age, what school or sports club you attend, your email address, password, username, bank account or credit card details, who your family is, etc.
personal information means "information or an opinion (including information or an opinion forming part of a database and whether or not recorded in a material form) about an individual whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained from the information or opinion". Personal information includes an individual's fingerprints, retina prints, body samples, genetic characteristics, video recordings, photographs and electronic records. The person's identity does not have to be expressly indicated by the information; it is only necessary that it "can reasonably be ascertained from the information". Some personal information is excluded. The most significant exceptions are: Information contained in a publicly available publication; Information about an individual's suitability for public sector employment; Information about people who have been dead for more than 30 years; A number of exceptions relating to law enforcement investigations.
Personal information includes any factual or subjective information, recorded or not, about a particular individual that makes that individual identifiable.
Definition: The same meaning as defined within the Privacy Amendment (Private Sector) Act 2000.
