series of micronutrient standards, largely used by the US and Canada.
The Dietary Reference Intake is a more complete set of guidelines based on four different measurements: the Estimated Average Requirements (EAR), or the nutrients needed to satisfy the needs of 50% of a particular age group; the Recommended Daily Allowances (RDA); the Adequate Intake (AI); the Tolerable Upper Limit (UL) which is the maximum amount of a nutrient that can safely be ingested for particular age groups.
Dietary Reference Intakes. The most recent series of nutrient guidelines issued by the national Academy of Sciences' Food and Nutrition Board. Included under the DRI umbrella are RDAs, AIs, and ULs. This series of guidelines is more comprehensive than previous nutritent guidelines issued by the board. The figures cover healthy individuals, from infants to pregnant women to the elderly.
