Definitions for "Criterion referenced assessment"
Criterion referenced assessment is the performance of an individual as measured against a standard or previously established criteria rather than against performance of others who take the same test.
An assessment where an individual's performance is compared to a specific learning objective or performance standard and not to the performance of other students.  Criterion-referenced assessment tells us how well students are performing on specific goals or standards rather than just how their performance compares to a norm groups of students nationally or locally.
The program sets the level of performance based on the identified learning outcome and determines an appropriate level of success.
