The name that is used by the Object Spawner Daemon, Workspace Factory, and Workspace Manager that allows for the assignment of a name to Object Server functionality. It is also used by SAS when publishing packages to an LDAP URL.

A shorthand name you can use for directories, databases, and filenames which reduces typing and is often easier to remember than full specifications. A name assigned to a device that distinguishes it from all other device instances in the system. It is the name used to refer to a particular device. For example, "tok0" can refer to a token-ring adapter. This is the same as "device name," which is a field in the Customized Devices Object Class. See also device name.
