An environmental management standard related to what organizations do that affects their physical surroundings. In the process of being made compatible with ISO 9000.
Series of environmental management system standards
A series of standards emitted or being prepared by the International Standards Organization (ISO), covering a number of environmental topics. ISO 14001, which was emitted in 1996, lays down a model for an environmental management system that can be adopted by any organization and can be certified by an accredited certifying body. This model is very similar to EMAS, emitted by the European Community in 1993.
a family of international standards for environmental management that reflects a global consensus on good environmental practice in the international context but can be applied pragmatically by organisations world wide to their particular situation (International Standards Organisation website).
Voluntary international standards for environmental disciplines developed through the International Organization for Standardization
A series of international, voluntary environmental management standards. Developed under International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 207, the 14000 series of standards address the following aspects of environmental management: Environmental Management Systems (EMS), Environmental Auditing and Related Investigations (EA&RI), Environmental Labels and Declarations (EL), Environmental Performance Evaluation (EPE), Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and Terms and Definitions (T&D). See also Environmental Management Systems
A series of international standards covering various environmental issues. They include ISO 14001, which specifies environmental management systems; and ISO 14040, which covers Life Cycle Assessment.
international standards for organizations to implement sound environmental management systems
ISO 14000 The ISO 14000 series is a family of environmental management standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). The ISO 14000 standards are designed to provide an internationally-recognized framework for environmental management, measurement, evaluation and auditing. They do not prescribe environmental performance targets, but instead provide organizations with the tools to assess and control the environmental impact of their activities, products or services. The standards address the following subjects: environmental management systems; environmental auditing; environmental labels and declarations; environmental performance evaluation; and life cycle assessment.
A series of international standards for environmental management systems, life-cycle assessment, environmental auditing of processes, environmental labeling and environmental performance evaluation. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) was founded in Geneva in 1946 and is concerned with standardization in a number of technical and non-technical fields.
ISO Environmental Management series -The ISO 14000 standards are designed to provide an internationally-recognized framework for environmental management, measurement, evaluation and auditing. They do not prescribe environmental performance targets, but instead provide organizations with the tools to assess and control the environmental impact of their activities, products or services. ISO 14001 is the principal Environmental Management Systems standard.
ISO 14000 is the most widely applied environmental management system. Similar to the EU Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (although EMAS goes further) ISO 14000 sets standards with regard to environmental policy, environmental objectives, implementation, control and continuous improvement. Standardized management system for environmental assurance.
The ISO 14000 environmental management standards exist to help organizations minimize how their operations negatively affect the environment (cause adverse changes to air, water, or land), comply with applicable laws, regulations, and other environmentally oriented requirements, and continually improve on the above.
