Our 700-ft. course has cones set 100 ft. apart in a straight line. Driving through as quickly as possible is an excellent test of transient handling. Times are recorded, and the best average speed is reported. Also evaluated subjectively are the car's response to steering input (its turn-in), its transient grip and cornering stability. A car's size can heavily influence slalom speeds. Average speeds greater than 68 mph are considered very good these days.
