A variable data type in which the variable's value is of the appropriate size and format for its type: a number, a character, or a boolean value.
A predefined basic type, such as an integer or a string.
One of the Java data types: boolean, char, byte, short, int, long, float, double. Primitive types are manipulated, assigned, and passed to methods "by value" (i.e., the actual bytes of the data are copied). See also reference type.
The fundamental, built-in types within the Java programming language, whose values have direct machine representations.
A type whose values cannot be decomposed into simpler values.
A type built in to the Java language (as a keyword). The main primtive types are int, double, boolean, and char; less often used primitive types are short, long, and float.
In computer science, primitive types — as distinct from composite types — are data types provided by a programming language as basic building blocks. Depending on the language and its implementation, primitive types may or may not have a one-to-one correspondence with objects in the computer's memory.
