Generating equipment normally operated only during the hours of highest daily, weekly, or seasonal loads; this equipment is usually designed to meet the portion of load that is above base load.
Capacity which is used in times of maximum demand. This capacity often has low capital costs and high fuel costs (i.e., combustion turbines) and is designed to be operated for relatively short periods of time.
