A series of understandings that commits most of the countries capable of producing extended-range missiles to a ban on the export of ballistic missiles and related technology and that also pledges MTCR adherents to bring economic and diplomatic pressure to bear on countries that export missile-applicable technology. 346
Established April 7, 1987, by the United States and six of its allies, the regime restricts the proliferation of missiles and missile technology. The original MTCR guidelines ban the transfer of unmanned missiles, rockets, and cruise missiles capable of delivering at least a 500-kilogram payload a minimum of 300 kilometers. Updated MTCR guidelines now restrict the transfer of all missiles intended for the delivery of weapons of mass destruction, regardless of their range and payload.
Founded in 1987 and consisting of 33 countries. It is intended to limit the proliferation of missiles capable of delivering weapons of mass destruction. The U.S. has incorporated the MTCR list of products to be controlled into the USML.
