a minor who has been legally deemed an adult, with all the responsibilities and rights of an adult
a person under the age of eighteen who by reason of marital status or military service is no longer in the custody of his/her parents
A child over the age of sixteen (16) may be emancipated by 1) order of the court based on a determination that the child can provide for his physical well-being and has the ability to make decisions for himself or 2) marriage of the child. An emancipated child has all the privileges, rights and duties of an adult including the right to contract.
A teenaged minor, who is legally, independent of parental control and who can thus give informed consent to medical treatments.
A legal status conferred upon persons who have not yet attained the age of legal competency as defined by state law (for such purposes as consenting to medical care), but who are entitled to treatment as if they had by virtue of assuming adult responsibilities such as being self-supporting and not living at home, marriage, or procreation.
