a process applied to a multiplex signal for recovering signals combined within it and for restoring the distinct individual channels of the signals
The extraction of multiple distinct messages or signals from a single composite signal ("multiplex").
A work that separates transmitted data by one stream. Contrast with multiplex. See multiplex.
The action of forwarding a packet to the proper process, such as when an IPX packet arrives at its destination and is handed to the IPX protocol.

Demultiplexing is extracting part of a movie file, in order to create a single audio or video file. For example, extracting an MPEG audio file from an MPEG movie file (that contains audio and video).
