(n.) A process that has attempted to access an area of memory that is restricted or does not exist. See also segmentation fault.
An error condition reported when a process has attempted to access a restricted or non-existent part of a computer's memory. Synonymous with segmentation fault.
system software: One of the most commonly occurring error codes to appear on your Mac, designated "Error Code ID 1" or "Type 1 error". You can often eliminate these errors by allocating more memory to the application in question. Under System 7, this error can indicate that the application is not 32-bit clean, and you will need to either get an upgrade or turn off 32-bit addressing on the Memory control panel.
