intaglio method in which several colors may be printed at once from a single plate. each color is selectively applied to specific regions of the plate using a separate pad or rolled piece of felt. halftone: photographic image that has been broken up into dots of varying sizes to achieve the effect of a full range of tonalities. monotype: a print made in an edition of one, often from a painting made on a non-absorbant surface.
