Sentence under which defendant is imprisoned, but is released during day to work at a job approved by Department of Corrections or the court.

A form of correctional work that permits soon-to-be released prisoners to work outside the prison walls during the day and to return to the prison, a halfway house, or other secure facility in the evenings.

In prison systems, work release programs allow a prisoner who is sufficiently trusted or can be sufficiently monitored leave confinement to continue working at his or her current place of employment, returning to prison when his/her shift is complete.
