The War of Attrition was a limited war fought between Israeli military, and the forces of Egypt and the Palestinian Liberation Organization and from 1968 to 1970. It was initiated by Egypt as a way to recapture the Sinai from Israel, which had controlled it since the Six-Day War. The war ended with a ceasefire signed between the countries in 1970 with frontiers at the same place as when the war started.
In game theory the War of attrition is a model of aggression in which two contestants compete for a resource of value V by persisting while accumulating costs at a constant rate c. The model was originally formulated by John Maynard Smith (1974). Strategically, the game is an auction, in which the prize goes to the player with the highest bid, and both players pay the loser's low bid.
War of Attrition is the sixth album by Dying Fetus.
