Someone who studies statistics and math. NASS employs two different types of statisticians, agricultural and mathematical. Agricultural statisticians are also called Ag stats. They take classes in mathematics, statistics, and agriculture. Ag stats normally have experience in farming. They usually collect and analyze data as well as set estimates. Mathematical statisticians or Math stats must have more classes in math and statistics than Ag Stats. Math stats determine the samples to be used and research ways to improve estimates.
