Definitions for "SSE"
Keywords:  simd, pentium, dnow, mmx, intel
This in the name for Intel's instructions set, introduced in their Pentium III processor. The SSE extensions are similar to AMD's 3DNow! set of instructions. These extensions are a set of 70 instructions that perform SIMD operations. In addition, to support these instructions, Pentium III's come with 8 128-bit registers dedicated to them.
Intel® Streaming SIMD Extensions (SSE) and SSE2 are sets of instructions for accelerating multimedia applications. SSE is found on Intel Pentium® III processors; SSE2 is Intel's new instruction set supported on Intel Pentium® 4 processors. Some of the benefits of SSE/SSE2 include rendering higher quality images, high quality audio, MPEG2 video, and simultaneous MPEG2 encoding and decoding, and reduced CPU utilization for speech recognition. NVIDIA's GPUs are fully optimized to take advantage of SSE and SSE2 instruction sets.
silicon switching engine. Routing and switching mechanism that compares the data link or network layer header of an incoming packet to a silicon-switching cache, determines the appropriate action (routing or bridging), and forwards the packet to the proper interface. The SSE is directly encoded in the hardware of the SSP (Silicon Switch Processor) of a Cisco 7000 series router. It can therefore perform switching independently of the system processor, making the execution of routing decisions much quicker than if they were encoded in software. See also silicon switching and SSP (Silicon Switch Processor).

Steady State Efficiency. Steady State Efficiency measures how efficiently a furnace converts fuel to heat, once the furnace has warmed up and is running steadily. However, furnaces cycle on and off as they maintain their desired temperature. Furnaces typically do not operate as efficienty as they start up and cool down. As a result, steady state efficiency is not as reliable an indicator of the overall efficiency of your furnace as AFUE. SSE is calculated by allowing a furnace to warm up, (typically for at least 20 minutes), then measuring the input BTUs per hour (BTUH) from the fuel and output BTUH released to the house in the form of heat. You then divide the output BTUH by the input BTUH. For example, a furnace that outputs 62,250 BTUs per hour once it has warmed up, and requires 75,000 BTUH of fuel has a SSE of 62,250 / 75,000 = 83%.

Sign Supported English. Unlike BSL, SSE is not a language in its own right. Instead it is like a kind of English with signs. Many people you see signing may be using SSE.

Subsequent Sensitizing Event. Events that occurs after the Initial Sensitizing Event that reinforces the cognitions, emotions or symptoms associated with the Initial Sensitizing Event. There is usually more than one SSE.
