Spot colors are inks mixed according to formulas. The ink mix fills one print drum, for transfer to your cassette, CD, or paper (as opposed to "process" color mixes). It is safe to say that when you are printing just one or two colors, print them as spot colors. Otherwise see "process colors." Please specify the color by using PantoneĀ® numbers. Please set up that ink in your computer file as a special "spot" color. Otherwise, by default it may be set as a process mix, which would be a costly mistake.
Specially mixed inks that create special colors that cannot be exactly replicated by CMYK inks.
Color times used independently in a printed piece for a specific need (i.e., Coca-Cola's shade of red), or in overlapping combinations (including those with process colors).
These colors are printed as solid areas and used when fewer than four colors are needed or when the four-color process (CMYK) is unable to accurately reproduce a color.
Spot Colors, also called solid colors or Pantone colors, are premixed inks that are not attainable by combining CMYK inks.
