Definitions for "Polarized"
A "polarized" basis set includes functions that are of higher angular momentum than is minimally required. For example, carbon atoms have 1s, 2s, and 2p orbitals, so a polarized basis set would also include at least a set of d-functions. The added functions are often called "polarization functions." Polarization functions help to account for the fact that atoms within molecules are not spherical.
basis set that includes functions that are of higher angular momentum than is minimally required. (Combination of p-orbitals added to the valence s-orbitals, or d-orbitals in addition to valence p-orbitals on carbon, for instance.) The added functions are often called "polarization functions." Polarization functions help to account for the fact that atoms within molecules are not spherical.
A component which must be connected in correct polarity to function and/or d/or prevent destruction. Example: Electrolytic capacitor.
To break up into opposing factions or groupings. Used herein to refer to uneven BioGeographical Ancestry admixture results such as 95% East Asian/5% Native American as opposed to a relatively even mix such as 50%/50%.
In condenser microphones, the source of the charge contained in the microphone capsule. Transducers may be of the internally polarized (electret) type, or may require an outside source of polarizing voltage (externally-polarized).
Referring to cells that have regional differences in organelle distribution or cytoplasmic composition along a specific axis, such as between the basement membrane and free surface of an epithelial cell.
