A term used to discribe a piece of wood with growth rings that meet the faces of the board at angles of less than 45 degrees.
Plain sawn describes lumber that has been cut with the growth rings at a 0 – 45 degree angle to the surface of the board. Plain sawn describes most lumber and flooring.
Boards are sliced from the log with the cut tangent to the growth rings.
