Time beyond, or in excess of, a limit; esp., extra working time.
An extra period of time provided to play a game, beyond the end of the normal period allowed for the game, for the purpose of resolving a tie score; as, the team won in overtime.
Time worked in excess of an agreed upon time for normal working hours by an employee. When a player exceeds his or her allotted 25 minutes-per-game. A penalty of 10 points per minute or fraction thereof results.
or OT: the extra period played after a regulation game ends tied.
When regulation time comes to an end, and both teams have the same score, if the rules for that sport allow it, the teams will play an extra period to define a winner. Overtime counts for both side and total of the second half.
