a solution that contains 1 gram-equivalent of a substance per liter of solution.
One which contains the gram-equivalent of the dissolved substance in a litre of solution. This normality stuff pretty much sucks for anything except acids and alkalis where the normality is simply calculated as 1 normal equaling a solution containing 1 mole of hydrogen ions. ie. 1 normal HCl = 1 molar, 1 normal H2SO4 = 0.5 molar
