numbers or sets of numbers (using a comma or range) placed at an end of an association indicating how many object of the closest type correspond thru the link to a single item at the other end. [ uml.period.gif ] [ uml.game.gif ] [ uml.coll1.jpg ] Note. Links that have many-to-one multiplicities are nearly always simpler to implement and easier to understand than those with muliplicities other than one at both ends. N O
(UML) The minimum and maximum number of individuals of one class that may be associated with a single member of another class. association.php
This is a property of associations that constrains the number of participants in an association. The key distinction is between exactly one and more than one because that is fundamental to the relational data model. (For example, it determines whether the relationship can be implemented with a simple pointer or requires a collection class during OOP.) UML supports more specific specifications of participation for OOD, but those are not relevant to the MDA profiles for OOA models (PIMs). (see the category on relationships.)
A multiplicity is a specification of the range of allowable cardinality values. It can be an explicit value, a range of values, or an expression that resolves to one or more values.
a range of nonnegative integers
A specification of the range of allowable cardinalities that a set may assume. Multiplicity specifications may be given for roles within associations, parts within composites, repetitions, and other purposes. Essentially a multiplicity is a (possibly infinite) subset of the non-negative integers. Contrast: cardinality.

Multiplicities is a concept created by Gilles Deleuze, often used for example in A Thousand Plateaus (1980). Multiplicities - they are always plural - are opposed to the dialectic between the One and the Multiple. Multiplicities is not a noun, warns Deleuze in A Thousand Plateaus 's introduction, to whoever may hypostase it: "It is not enough to shout: Vive le multiple!.
given by 2S+1 where S is the sum of individual electron spins, s. When 2S+1=1 (antiparallel spin electron pair) the state is called a singlet state, when 2S+1=2 (single unpaired electron) the state is called a doublet state and when 2S+1=3 (parallel spin electron pair) the state is called a triplet state.
In mathematics, the multiplicity of a member of a multiset is how many memberships in the multiset it has. For example, the term is used to refer to the value of the totient valence function, or the number of times a given polynomial equation has a root at a given point.
It occurs when you make several comparisons on the same dataset and has the affect of inflating the type I error rate (detecting a difference between treatments when a difference does not truly exist). When there's no underlying effect or difference in treatments, getting statistically significant result (a type I error) is supposed to be like winning the lottery. Lottery numbers are a random phenomenon and you can increase your chances of winning if you buy more tickets. This can be related to the type I error rate – performing many tests on the data increases the chance that something will be statistically significant. The chance of a statistically significant result is supposed to be small when there's no underlying effect, but performing lots of tests makes it large. This is known as multiplicity.
The proliferation of possible comparisons in a trial. Common sources of multiplicity are multiple outcome measures, outcomes assessed at several time points after the intervention, subgroup analyses, or multiple intervention groups.
Multiplicity is a computer program that allows the use of one keyboard and mouse to access two or more client computers from a host computer. It is distributed by Stardock as part of their Think Desk subscription, as well as being available separately.
The quality of being multiple, manifold, or various; a state of being many; a multitude; as, a multiplicity of thoughts or objects.
