Definitions for "MPB"
Musica Popular Brasileira. Pretty much a catch-all phrase for any Brazilian pop which comes after bossa nova. The Tropicalia movement (see below) used to be what people meant when they were talking about MPB, but now it's almost an absurdly far-reaching phrase that musical poseurs use when they want to sound cool. (Just watch how often I use it!)
Short for “Música Popular Brasileira” (Brazilian Popular Music). This name aroused in 1965 to designate all music made in Brazil except for rock. Actually, lots of rockers like Marina or Cazuza have styles which are mellow enough to be called MPB.
