Definitions for "FOTS"
a communication system using fiber optic cables
Fiber optics transmission system. A transmission system utilizing hair-thin glass fibers through which light is transmitted. Information is transferred by modulating the transmitted light. These modulated signals are detected by light-sensitive semiconductor devices. The signals are regenerated to relay the information and demodulated to retrieve the information.
Fibre optics transmission system. A system which uses glass fibres the size of human hairs through which light is transmitted. By changing the patterns of light sent through the lines, information is transmitted. These signals are read by light-sensitive devices. Fibre optics generally allow for a much greater speed and bandwidth than transmitting over regular wires, microwave or satellite.
