The term Facility Management is used to describe a process encompassing the whole spectrum of buildings, plants and equipment (facilities). The planning, control and the management of these facilities takes the working place and the working environment into consideration, with the aim of achieving better utilization, value maintenance and cost reduction. Facility Management enables companies and institutions to optimize the utilization of their real estate, building complexes, mechanical systems and installations, as well as infrastructures such as communication networks, by means of efficient planning and management. This applies to the whole "life cycle" of the facility in question, i.e., purchase, construction or lease, management or operation, as well as relocation, renovation, demolition or sale.
