Free Alongside Ship. A delivery term under which the seller provides his goods alongside a named vessel at a named port. Refer to INCOTERMS for standard definition.
The term f.a.s. must be qualified by a named port. The seller is liable for all charges and risks until the goods sold are delivered alongside a vessel at such port or are delivered to the port on a dock which will by used by the vessel. Title passes to the buyer when the seller has secured a clean dock or ship's receipt for the goods.
An abbreviation (for "free alongside") used in international trade statistics and t sales contracts; a method of valuing traded goods that does not include the cost of shipment from the exporting to the importing country.

Free Along Side. A basis of pricing meaning the price of goods alongside a transport vessel at a specified location. The buyer is responsible for loading the goods onto the transport vessel and paying all the cost of shipping beyond that location.
