Definitions for "Easter egg"
An undocumented surprise hidden by the programmer in the game. Often the programmer's name or initials. Adventure contained the first Easter Egg. It's unusual these days for games, on any platform, to ship without an Easter Egg (or several!) of some kind.
Easter eggs are hidden features placed by programmers in software applications, operating systems, and even some hardware. When the hidden command sequence is found, an Easter-egged product will perform an action, such as displaying a message, a small animation or playing a sound.
The religious right has nothing to do with these messages hidden in the object code of a program as a joke. This is comparable and even more effective than hearing the messages from playing songs backwards.
