A period of twenty-four hours, mostly misspent. This period is divided into two parts, the day proper and the night, or day improper -- the former devoted to sins of business, the latter consecrated to the other sort. These two kinds of social activity overlap.
The time of light, or interval between one night and the next; the time between sunrise and sunset, or from dawn to darkness; hence, the light; sunshine; -- also called daytime.
The period of the earth's revolution on its axis. -- ordinarily divided into twenty-four hours. It is measured by the interval between two successive transits of a celestial body over the same meridian, and takes a specific name from that of the body. Thus, if this is the sun, the day (the interval between two successive transits of the sun's center over the same meridian) is called a solar day; if it is a star, a sidereal day; if it is the moon, a lunar day. See Civil day, Sidereal day, below.
Those hours, or the daily recurring period, allotted by usage or law for work.
A specified time or period; time, considered with reference to the existence or prominence of a person or thing; age; time.
a period of twenty-four (24) consecutive hours beginning and ending at 10:00 A.M. Eastern Clock Time.
A standard period of time equal to 24 hours (mean solar day), representing one complete rotation of the planet Earth on its axis. A day has 1440 minutes.
a measurement unit of time equal to one complete (360 degree) rotation of the Earth which lasts 24 hours.
time for Earth to make a complete rotation on its axis; "two days later they left"; "they put on two performances every day"; "there are 30,000 passengers per day"
some point or period in time; "it should arrive any day now"; "after that day she never trusted him again"; "those were the days"; "these days it is not unusual"
the time after sunrise and before sunset while it is light outside; "the dawn turned night into day"; "it is easier to make the repairs in the daytime"
the recurring hours when you are not sleeping (especially those when you are working); "my day began early this morning"; "it was a busy day on the stock exchange"; "she called it a day and went to bed"
the period of time taken by a particular planet (e.g. Mars) to make a complete rotation on its axis; "how long is a day on Jupiter?"
the time for one complete rotation of the earth relative to a particular star, about 4 minutes shorter than a mean solar day
a beautiful classical acoustic piece (which puts fellow guitarist Mike Rutherford to shame), and Squire's 'The Fish' is a bass-riff-fest - you'd never know how many clever things it is possible to make with just one base and just one recording studio
means a 24-consecutive-hour period.
From Midnight to Midnight (Eastern Time) the Next Day. Commissions are Calculated Daily and Paid Weekly one week in arrears.
means a 24 hour period ending at midnight and 'working day' means a 24-hour period beginning at the start of an employee's shift.
for purposes of benefit accrual and reporting only, each day will be considered as 7.5 hours for full-time employees and proportional to 7.5 hours for less than full-time employees.
24 hours = 1440 minutes = 86400 seconds.
unit of time Astronomically, the time between successive times that Flokin the fire god lights the sun. Chronologically, about the same amount of time as an earth day. The sun's flame waxes for a third of the day, and wanes and dwindles for the next third, and it is not lit at all in the last third.
The amount of time it takes the earth to completely rotate once (24 hours).
The time it takes for the Earth to spin once on its axis.
From Midnight to Midnight (Eastern Time) the Next Day. Compensation is calculated daily and paid weekly, one week in arrears.
A unit used to measure time; 1 day = 24 hours.
A day is the length of time that it takes a planet to rotate on its axis (360°). A day on Earth takes almost 24 hours.
1. A basic time increment defined by the earth's motion; specifically, a complete revolution of the earth about its own axis. The sidereal day is defined as the time required for the earth to make one complete revolution in an absolute coordinate system, that is, with respect to the stars. The day in common use is the mean solar day, derived, by means of the equation of time, from the apparent solar day, which is determined directly from the apparent relative motion of the sun and earth. The civil day is a modification of the mean solar day, which renders it practical as a time measure for ordinary purposes. See also year, lunar day. 2. The period from midnight to midnight, local civil time; that is, a civil day. 3. The period of daylight, as opposed to that of darkness. 4. See pendulum day See observational day.
Considered a basic unit of time as defined by the earth's motion. It represents the time needed for one complete revolution of the earth about its own axis. Also know as a sidereal day, it is approximately equal to 23 hours, 56 minutes, and 4.09 seconds.
A day (symbol: d) is a unit of time equal to 24 hours. It is not an SI unit but it is accepted for use with SI. The SI unit of time is the second.
