Syndrome characterized by the presence of one or more manic or mixed episodes.
A term applied to the disorder of people who experience episodes of both mania and depression or of mania alone.
A serious mood disorder characterized by a persisting pattern of cyclic mood changes alternating between depressive and manic episodes. This disorder results in significant social or occupational impairment and cannot be etiologically related to an underlying medical disorder, the effects of a substance, or another major psychiatric disorder. The diagnosis of bipolar I disorder requires a history of at least one manic episode.
