Bergama (Greek: Πέργαμος) is a city and its depending district in Turkey, in northwestern Anatolia, 16 miles from the Aegean Sea, about 100km north of İzmir, located on a promontory on the north side of the Bakırçay river with a population of about 55,000. It is due east of the island of Lesbos (Midilli in Turkish). The ruins of the ancient city of Pergamon or Pergamum lie to the north and west of the modern city.
