From the Greek 'anthros' (man) and 'manteia' (divination), this was a barbaric practice in which the entrails of criminals, prisoners of war, or those who had volunteered for religious rites, who had been ritualistically sacrificed. Alternatively known as " Splanchomancy", the practice was outlawed and abandoned centuries ago, but some contest that the practice is still occasionally utilized by practitioners of " necromancy".
