Windows Metafiles A type of vector graphic used in Windows applications such as Word and Power Point.
Short for Windows Media Format, a Microsoft file format for encoding digital audio files similar to MP3 though can compress files at a higher rate than MP3. WMF files, which use the .wmf or .wma file extensions, can be of any size compressed to match many different connection speeds, or bandwidths. The Windows Media player supports many older encoding formats, including Cinepak, AVI, JPEG, and MPEG-1 along with a proprietary version of MPEG-4.
indows etafile is like an ordinary CGM metafile but possibly containing structures that make it specific to MS-Windows. It is not really more capable than the ordinary CGM format, but less portable and therefore less desirable.

"Windows Metafile" An image file format that was to facilitate the exchange of graphic information between applications in the Microsoft Windows operating system. The WMF format is capable of storing a decent looking screen image and the complete vector data (precise mathematical definition) of a file. So far WMF has not yet gained the universal support among Windows applications that Microsoft was originally aiming for, but never bet against Microsoft.
