The waterproofness of a fabric is its ability to stop water passing through it under pressure. In Europe a fabric must be able to withstand a 1.5m column of water to be classed as waterproof. This will stop heavy rain but can't cope with the higher pressure of kneeling on wet ground or even the straps of a back pack. The fabrics we offer exceed this considerably, Gore-Tex for example will take a 28m column of water.
