Definitions for "Volatile Solids"
Matter which remains as a residue after evaporation at 105 or 180oC, but which is lost after ignition at 600oC. Includes most forms of organic matter.
(VS) is the amount of matter which volatilizes (or burns) when a water sample is heated to 550EC.
Those solids in water or other liquids that are lost on ignition of the dry solids at 550 degrees C.
