Communities that have been developed around an area of common interest, and use online techniques to sustain themselves. They may use electronic bulletin boards (forums), the World Wide Web or email distribution lists to share information and maintain communications. As well as volunteer run communities, others are being developed by commercial ventures, to create a focal point for electronic marketing (see Electronic Communities).
