Vijaya (c. 543-504 B.C.) is the semi-legendary first king of the Sinhalese. The legends around Vijaya's life constitute what is essentially a creation myth for the Sinhalese people and as such he is a highly-regarded and often-mentioned figure in the history of Sri Lanka. The primary source for his life is the Mahavamsa.
