(1) An electrical connection permitting signals to be transmitted onto or off a bus; (2) the link between the bus and the drop cable that connects the workstation to the bus; and (3) a device used on CATV cables for matching impedance or connecting subscriber drops.
A connection provided in a transformer winding which has the effect of changing the nominal voltage ratio of the transformer. The taps are usually placed on the high voltage winding to correct for high or low voltage conditions found on the low voltage output side. Taps are expressed as either full capacity above nominal (FCAN) or full capacity below nominal (FCBN).
A device inserted into a feeder line that allows a specific amount of signal to be removed from the feeder line and isolates the TAP port from the main through line.
A device installed in the feeder cable which connects the home TV set to the cable network. Also called a drop.
A connection in a coil of a transformer.
The connecting device on cable-based LANs, such as Ethernet, linking to the main transmission medium. For example, taps are used to connect multiport repeaters to 10base-5 coaxial cabling.
A connection between conductors or between a conductor and certain equipment such as transformers.
A connection brought out of the winding at some point between its extremities, usually to permit changing the voltage or current ratio.
A tap is installed in the feeder cable to connect the home TV set to the cable network.
An electrical connection at any point in the winding. Typically the tap is identified by the number of turns between the start of the winding and the tap. Multiple taps may occur within a given winding.
Any device used to obtain signal voltages from coaxial cable. The earlier forms such as capacitive and transformer taps have been replaced by directional couplers in modern systems. A device that channels a specific amount of energy out of the main distribution system to a secondary outlet.
An open point on a cable bundle that is left so that technicians can easily splice off a pair to bring additional service to a home or to bring service to a new home.
A tap is a device which splits off a portion of the feeder line signal for the subscriber.
n. A device that can be attached to an Ethernet bus to enable a computer to be connected.
A passive device installed in the feeder line that provides some level of signal carried on the feeder for connection to the customer's drop cable. Also known as directional tap or multitap.
1. A connector that attaches to a cable without blocking the passage the passage of information along that cable. 2. In communications, a connection onto the main transmission medium of the netwo ... more
Electrical connection to some point other than at the ends of a resistor or inductor.
A transformer tap is a connection point along a transformer winding that allows the number of turns to be selected. By this means, a transformer with a variable turns ratio is produced, enabling voltage regulation of the secondary side. Selection of the tap in use is made via a tap changer mechanism.
