Definitions for "Sexually Transmitted Infections"
Infections that have been transmitted via sexual activity. Examples of STIs are chlamydia, gonorrhoea, and HIV/AIDS. Some STIs can cause infertility (e.g. causing blocked fallopian tubes).
Infections usually passed from person to person by sexual contact, although some can be passed on by other means (e.g., through needle-stick injury). Also called sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
