The alphanumeric string before the dot and the TLD. AusRegistry administers all domains within the .com, .net, .org, .id and .asn 2LD's that exist within the .au TLD. 2LD's are also called domain types within the Australian registry system.
a sub-section of a Top Level Domain (TLD) in the Domain Name System
An "SLD" is a second-level domain of the DNS.
A level below a gTLD or ccTLD. E.g. the .'co' in ‘www.samplename.co.uk. Organizations responsible for registrations of domain names in certain ccTLDs, such as Nominet in the UK have decided to use second level domains to provide a greater range of options within that ccTLD.
In the Domain Name System (DNS), the information in a Domain Name to the left of the Top Level Domain extension (.com, .net etc...) is the Second Level of the Domain and helps computers connected to the Internet point to the proper server location within the Top Level Domain extension. Much like in most postal addresses, the State is within the Country, etc...
In the Domain Name System (DNS) hierarchy, a second-level domain (SLD) is a domain that is directly below a top-level domain (TLD). For example, in internic.net, internic is the second-level domain of the .net TLD. Second-level domains commonly refer to the organization that registered the domain name with a domain name registrar or ccTLD registrar. Some TLDs introduce a second-level hierarchy that indicates the type of organization registered under it. For example, in the .uk TLD a college or other academic institution would register under .ac.uk, while companies would register under .co.uk.
The portion of the domain that appears next to the top level domain. For instance, in domainit.com, domainit is the second level domain.
In the Domain Name System (DNS), this is the next highest level in the hierarchy underneath the top-level domains. In a domain name, that portion of the domain name that appears immediately to the left of the top-level domain. For example, the "mydomain" in "www.mydomain.com".
In the Domain Name System (DNS), the next lower level of the hierarchy underneath the top level domains. In a domain name, that portion of the domain name that appears immediately to the left of the .com, .net, .org, etc...) For example, the acehosts.com would be the second level domain for this web site. The top-level domain is .com.
The portion of a traditional domain name that comes before the dot. So, in alknet.com, the second level domain is alknet.
In the Domain Name System (DNS), the next highest level of the hierarchy underneath the Top Level Domains. Our domain name - Domain Bank.net - for example is part of the Internet address for Domain Bank, Inc. The Domain Bank part is the second level domain. Second level domain names are what you register by or on behalf of registrants (or owners) in a Top Level Domain registry.
In the Domain Name System (DNS), the next lower level of the hierarchy underneath the top level domains. In a domain name, that portion of the domain name that appears immediately to the left of the top-level domain. For example, the NIC in NIC.AG. Second level domain names are often descriptive and have come to be used increasingly to represent businesses and other commercial concerns on the Internet.
The domain names system is organized as a hierarchy. After the root, the top level domain is the highest in the hierarchy, followed next by the second level domain. The second level domain in www.mysite.com, would be the “mysite†portion.
The next highest level of hierarchy underneath the Top Level Domain (TLD). The portion of the domain name that comes before the "." Identifies the specific and unique administrative owner associated with an Internet Protocol address (IP address).
The lower level of the hierarchy underneath the top level domains. In a domain name, it is the portion of the name that appears immediately to the left of the TLD.
