A document, also called liner waybill, prepared by the carrier of a shipment of goods that contains details of the shipment, route, and charges by sea. It evidences a contract according to which the carrier delivers the goods to the consignee.
Transport document which is not a document of title/negotiable document. The sea waybill indicates the "on board" loading of the goods and can be used in cases where no ocean bill of lading, i.e. no document of title is required. For receipt of the goods, presentation of the sea waybill by the consignee named therein is not required, which can speed up processing at the port of destination.
a non-negotiable document
Similar to a bill of lading but without offering title of goods; it is used for maritime transports. It allows the importer to collect the goods against identification. They are useful for companies that trade internationally with themselves between geographical areas where payment for exports is not a problem.
Document indicating the goods were loaded onboard when a document of title (b/L) is not needed. Typically used when a company is shipping goods to itself.
Non negotiable document, which can only be made out to a named consignee. No surrender of the document by the consignee is required.→ Bill of Lading
