Definitions for "Sclerites"
Part of the skeletal/structural support in soft corals. They are composed of calcium carbonate imbedded in the tissue of most soft corals (octocorallia).
tiny, often microscopic, hard pieces that are found in the tissues of soft corals. Positive identification to species often requires examination of sclerites. Also sometimes called spicules, but it's more correct to call them sclerites.
