Definitions for "Row cover"
used in the growing of vegetables lightweight floating row covers help keep out insects and birds and can offer some frost protection. Plastic row covers supported by a frame can help warm the soil and maintain warmer temperature in the tent like structure.
The term is generally used to refer to floating row covers, but may also describe grow tunnels. Grow tunnels, like row covers, are made of transparent material like plastic or polypropylene. Instead of laying directly on plant material, however, grow tunnels are suspended above it --usually by a frame of PVC pipe or wood. The protection allows the plants inside a few degrees protection from the cold: the heat absorbed by the soil during the day is trapped under the plastic at night.
A cover (plastic, polypropylene, or spunbonded fiber) over one or several rows. In cooler climates, covers are often placed over direct seeded rows or recently transplanted crops to create a warmer, more humid microenvironment to facilitate rapid plant establishment of warm season crops. Can also provide crop protection from insects. See crop cover See low tunnels See Reemay See Microclimate Research pages
