A modular concept that allows an intruder to stay in a system without being noticed by the administrator.
A set of software tools intended to conceal running processes, files or system data, which helps an intruder maintain access to a system without the user's knowledge, often via some kind of "back door" into the system. Rootkits are most frequently distributed via drive-by download and require high levels of technical expertise to remove safely.
