A stormwater management basin that captures storm water runoff and does not discharge directly to a surface water body. The water is "discharged" by infiltration or evaporation.
A basin or reservoir where water is stored for regulating a flood. Unlike a detention basin, it does not have outlets for releasing the flows, the water must be disposed by draining into the soil, evaporation, or pumping systems.
A Retention basin, sometimes called an retention pond, is a type of constructed wetland that is used to contain stormwater or rain runoff. A retention basin provides an area to hold water from a small surrounding drainage area that would otherwise flow into other areas. The water remains in the local area that it was deposited in.
